SPOT Gen3, satellite tracking device

The tracking function in SPOT Gen3 is activated by movement, regardless of the level of tracking you choose (Basic, Unlimited or Extreme). A vibration sensor tells SPOT to send your GPS location when you are on the move and not when you are stopped (this is a good way to save battery and not have to remember to reset the tracking service after 24 hours).

Tracking in SPOT Gen3

Predeterminate your SPOT Gen3 to send GPS coordinates adapting to the speed you need in your adventures. They can be sent every 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes. SPOT Gen3 will send the GPS coordinates with the chosen frequency while your device is on and moving; The tracking service will not stop until you do.


Use this function in case of danger situation or any other emergency to inform emergency services about your exact location and need for assistance. The GEOS Emergency Response Center will alert the appropriate agencies around the world. For example, it will contact the 9-1-1 recipients in North America and the 1-1-2 recipients in Europe.


In the case of situations that do not threaten your safety, you can use this feature to notify your personal contacts that you need help. The SPOT Additional Assistance service can be purchased and programmed in its Help button. When you activate this service, the Help button will notify the professional organizations either on land or in water. SPOT is associated with national service providers to offer assistance in non-hazardous situations.


This function allows your friends and family to know that everything is going well and to know your GPS location through a programmed message. Just pressing a button sends a text message or an email to up to 10 predetermined contacts, and your waypoint is stored in your SPOT account for future reference. These reference points can be easily integrated into the SPOT Shared Page or the SPOT Adventure account.


This function makes your friends and family receive a confirmation message with your location just by pressing a button. Use this function as a secondary confirmation message or transfer your personal alert to this message function if you are using the SPOT Support service in the Help button.


Start and stop the scan at any time through your SPOT device. (Additional service is required). You can also mark a reference point or send Check-in / OK messages from specific locations while in Track Progress tracking mode.

How do I activate my SPOT service?



The SPOT needs a clear view of the sky to obtain a GPS signal and thus provide the most accurate information of its location. It is not reliable in closed places, in a cave, or in dense forests. Orienting the SPOT so that the SPOT logo looks towards the sky will improve the operation, since the antenna is located below the logo.

Keep the device at least 30.5 cm away from other GPS devices.
